Benefits for sending institution:
- The target language of the project was English; therefore in the course of the project, the vocabulary related to the methodology of teaching of engineering English was enriched. New knowledge related to the above methodology of teaching and the estimation of results in the courses of technical English for industrial companies that the exchange beneficiaries acquired throughout the exchange, will be used in the design of curriculum for the newly created courses of engineering English at FME BUT. In this way, the exchange beneficiaries will contribute to the improvement and amendment of specific courses of English for engineering students who, in turn, will acquire specific language skills necessary for their professional activities in EU engineering companies. The scope and usability of the skills acquired by the exchange beneficiaries will be evaluated by the faculty authorities who are responsible for the contents of the newly designed specific courses in English.
- A transfer of good practice in the area of vocational education and training was mainly focused on the acquisition of methodological approaches applied throughout teaching in - company courses of engineering English (local engineering industries), where the courses are adapted to the company needs (tailor - made courses). This approach could be transferred to the offer of life - long courses for the relevant regional enterprises that are in close touch with FME BUT.
- The direct benefit for the sending organisation can be seen in the above transfer of specific methodological approaches used by the hosting institution for teaching of engineering English - in - company courses based on the requirements of the companies, specific material developed by the hosting institution including assessment tools. At present, the English courses run at FME BUT are increasingly focused on specific language and its practical applications. The latter output was observed in the companies served by the hosting institution. Courses participants were able to show the exchange beneficiaries round the company and explain how it is operated, including the description of the individual technological equipment, and discuss the future prospects of the company production in the EU scope. This teaching technique focused on practical engineering English could be applied in both life - long courses and in e.g. master study programmes where the students have already selected their engineering subject area.
Benefits for receiving institution:
- The hosting organisation will be provided with access to the extensive professional experience and knowledge of the teachers from the Institute of languages FME BUT, specifically from the methodology of teaching of technical (engineering) English related to a wide scope of engineering subject areas offered by FME BUT.
- A support offered by hosting organisation to improve methodological competences of our language teachers can, on the other hand, assist this organisation in improving their own methodological skills when running their in - company courses of engineering English.
This LdV mobility was the first common language project focused on the transfer of methodological experience between the cooperating institutions. The exchange of specific pedagogical experience from teaching of engineering English between a non - university provider of vocational education and a technical university seems to be very beneficial for both of them and therefore should be supported in future.
