English for Practical Training of Engineering Students II

Partnership

Brno University of Technology, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering
provides courses for students of bachelor, master and doctoral programmes in mechanical engineering subjects.
Subject area institutes of FME BUT
have already developed or are currently developing study programmes in English that will be submitted for accreditation and that will widen the choice of engineering jobs for graduates in European companies. Teaching of engineering subjects in English is ensured in close cooperation between the subject area institutes and the department of languages at FME BUT. This department assists the faculty institutes in training the engineering teachers who teach their subjects in English.
Institute of foreign languages FME BUT
runs courses for students of all study programmes with special emphasis on engineering English. A part of specialized language courses offered by the department are also preparatory courses for students who applied for mobilities or practical training in EU companies. The department also runs in - house courses of engineering English for the university staff. The teachers of the department of languages have had a long - time experience with teaching of engineering English and also with coordination of transnational EU projects focused on the development of teaching materials for engineering English (A Practical Guide for Technical/Scientific Writers in English, Leonardo I, pilot project 1998 - 2001 and Writing Professional English, Leonardo da Vinci II, language competences project, 2002 - 2005). Supported by the faculty authorities, the department has installed a multimedia laboratory with 15 working stations where new teaching methods and materials are verified. Ostfold University College offers 60 subjects of study at three regional cities - Fredrikstad, Halden and Sarpsborg. Ostfold University College has approximately 4.000 students and 450 staff members. We offer a range of bachelor's degree programmes and a few master's degree programmes.
Ostfold University College
offers a steadily growing number of courses that can be studied as part of your home university degree. These courses are taught in English (alternatively: in German or French). For all English taught courses or programmes, good English skills (intermediate level) are required.
The Faculty of Engineering
is located in Sarpsborg and has at present 350 students and 40 staff members and Faculty of Computer Sciences is located in Halden. Both faculties cooperate with foreign institutions through a number of International research projects. These projects often solve tasks given by the local industry and overseas students often take part in these projects through thein mobilities.
Ostfold University College
has also arranged visits of participants to other Norwegian tertiary institutions offering study programmes in English for engineering students.
The Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU)
in Trondheim represents academic eminence in technology and the natural sciences as well as in other academic disciplines ranging from the social sciences, the arts, medicine, architecture to fine arts. Cross-disciplinary cooperation results in innovative breakthroughs and creative solutions with far-reaching social and economic impact. The aim of the project was to acquire information about the courses taught in English including materials that could be used FME BUT for teaching or development of shared study programmes based on cooperation with industry. Molde University College
is one of 25 state owned university colleges in Norway with approximately 1500 students, divided between 32 programmes of study. FME BUT cooperates with Molde University College within the SOCRATES/ERASMUS programme.
